Today's the Day
Death Doula Training Begins
Dear Sweet Community,
I’m writing to you from a coffee shop in South Carolina on the precipice of death doula training. I’ve been dilly-dallyin’ and lolly-gaggin’ in the area for a few days ahead of training with two of my nearest and dearest. Kelsey and Ethan have known me for nearly two decades, and once again, they have witnessed and held me as I transform into yet another version of myself. How blessed am I to have two doulas alongside me as I deepen my own practice as a death doula?
Here’s a glimpse into the magic of the liminal space I’ve been in for the past few days:
Imagine an aching heart; butterflies floating on a cool breeze; cannabis, caffeine, and sugar; sacred rage; the smell of campfire and farm animals; salt, bay leaves, and rosemary; the discomfort of shedding old skin; hummingbirds zipping by; a full belly and full-belly laughter; backcountry roads, music turned up, and windows rolled down; the comfort of familiar silence; a grateful heart; and hope for acceptance of the unknown, the uncertain, and the uncontrollable nature of being.
And now, I’m taking a deep breath, crossing the threshold, and stepping into the great mystery of whatever the next moment holds for me.
In Service,
Sarah
